What are the different types of survival equipment?
Survival equipment is the list of items that form a part of the overall survival gear kits that are used during calamities and emergencies. These equipments or tools of survival support the survivors to sustain themselves till the time they are rescued. Some of the survival equipments also help in attracting the attention of the rescuers to the location of survivors. Survival equipment is meant to be sturdily built and yet light and compact for easy portability. Some of the regular house-hold items like knives and matches also form a part of survival gear but most of the other equipments are specially built to perform certain functions. Here is a list of important survival equipment that must be included in the kits.
Power and fuel equipment: Survivors need fire and fuel to survive the elements and they may also be needed for location purposes. Water proof matches or lighters are some of the survival equipment that can be used as fire starters. Electronic starters are also available. Fuel for fire and containers to hold the fires are some of the fire related survival gears that need to be included in the kit. Power backups for electronic and electrical survival equipment must also be included. Batteries and cells are the most common amongst these types of items.
Food and shelter equipment: Non perishable food that is dehydrated and highly nutritious must form a part of every survival gear kit. Water containers and water harvesting gear are other important survival equipments. Sheltering items like tents, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. can also be included in the kits. These items may not be really vital for survival but surely are items that provide some amount of comfort to the survivors during the times of duress.
Medications: First aid medication and equipments are mandated items that cannot be ignored. Medicines that can provide first line (or basic) level of support will have to be included. These medicines can help survivors to overcome, bacterial, fungal and viral infections. General prescription medicines like cough syrups, skin ointments, etc. can also be included. First aid materials like bandages, tapes, scissors, tweezers, etc. must also be included.
Communication equipment; Radio transmitters, position beacons, flares, light emitters, laser beam emitters, etc. are some of the most regularly used equipments. This type of survival equipment is called position indicator and communicator. They help the survivors in broadcasting their location to potential rescuers.
